Here's a story of something that happened here recently. It really illustrates how something small can be very powerful for your relationship.
Those of you with children know that if the kids are sleeping, you should be sleeping. As the one who gets up in the night with babies, that rest is very precious to my wife. And I mean precious like Lord of the Rings precious.
I hold my breath for what seems like an excruciatingly long time and finally get into the bed. I lie beside Amanda, knowing that I woke her from her much-coveted sleep.
That she would take some of her special, much-needed sleep time and give it to me was really meaningful. She could have given a big sigh of annoyance and rolled over, giving me the cold shoulder. But instead of hostility, I received an unexpected show of affection.
Even a gesture as small as a back rub can be a mighty expression of real love.
